Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013

Finally, I have a grin on my face, got a call from Toyota main head office in Preston, my car has been booked in for the work to be carried out, at my local Toyota dealer garage 20 mins away from my home, I was told they will need my 86 for four days & a courtesy car will be available to me for the length of time my vehicle will be with them, though I would be cheeky and also ask if my plugs could be done at the same time, surprisingly there was no objection, I was quoted $65 for the extra work. The car is booked in for the 19th Aug!! so fingers crossed... -

Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013

It's been some time since I checked at https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/vehicle-information/recall-checker after checking yet again, now it's telling me they can not find my car in there database, hahahahaha crazy carry on with this Recall, I think the actual Recall was back in March? (4) months later I'm still waiting patiently!! but my GT86 is due it's MOT next months, does anyone know if this will have any effect on the MOT? at the test station, I take it to. Should I now contact Toyota to find out why my vehicle has not been called in yet? -
I have noticed my GT86 62 plate is starting to get a bit sluggish, it's just got over 38k on the clock, before purchasing the GT86 I had previously owned a Toyota Celica vvti, loved it I was able to bang my fishing gear into it and head of for miles, this took place each week back then, unfortunately, I can not do this in the GT86!! first point 1, scratching my pearl gray paintwork 2, can't get my fishing gear into it... So the car is only traveling from home to work less than 5 miles each way, plus it's all stop-start journey to work, the motor is not getting a real run, so over the last 2 weeks I have decided stuff the mileage just get the motor on the motorway!! so last week I took it on a run from Leeds West Yorkshire to Sheffield & back home which I think is about 29 miles from Leeds center, and today from Leeds to Manchester again I think this is about 32 miles, on the first run out I added some fuel additive treatment which I purchased from Toyota, can anyone give me a few tips how to keep this engine running sweet without breaking the bank? Cheers Benjie

I know your right Lauren, guest I get impatient waiting on Toyota, it's just like you said, some dealers are way ahead on this, for instance, when the recall first popped up in March a Toyota dealer where I took my vehicle for a service, about 10 miles from my home phoned me asking me to bring my vehicle in to there branch, but I declined saying I wanted to use my local branch a 20 min's drive away from my house. So I will sit and wait like everyone else around here. -
Shame the link has been deleted.

Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013

Well, Lauren, the recall was back in March, it's now may I did ring up Toyota main branch & spoke with a young lady there, who just sounded more like an automated machine, and really did not show much interest in giving me any real guidance, all she really said Toyota will write to me!! my response in this post was April 7 and as you can see I have gotten no were with them calling me in. So again today I check at https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/vehicle-information/recall-checker And I got more are less the same kind of message... (Recall Checker: To find out whether a current safety recall includes your vehicle we have developed a 3 step process below. Confirmation: We have identified that your Toyota is subject to a voluntary customer service campaign or outstanding safety recall. This can be rectified at no cost.) What's going on with these guys are they stooling for more time?? -
Well after going into my main Toyota dealers, I was very pleasantly surprised by a quote given, my GT86 currently has 38000k on the clock, just at the backend of 2018 it had a dealer service, even back then they tried convincing me my vehicle was due for a full "major" service which included a spark plug change. But reading 6 Year Service and 60000 Mile Service tells me I do not have to change spark plugs until my vehicle has done 60k am I correct? my main dealers are wanting to change me £1,018.21 inclusive of VAT wait for it " This includes a total discount of £331.14 off our normal prices as a thank you for your custom" 😂 The Plan Period: 36 months/ start date 08/03/2019 first service sep 2019/final service sep 2021..... Payment Details: service price £1.349.35/service discount -£277.55 plan discount -£53.59 total discount 24.54% Plan Price: £1,018.21, "inc Admin fee of 29 x £1.20, Payment Schedule: First Payment Date: 01/04/2019 Last Payment Date: 01/08/2021 Number of payments 29, 5 x £108.47 23 x £19.83 1 x £19.77..... NOW, GUYS, do I need an accountant and as most have posted in the topics outlined above, my vehicle does not need its plugs replacing as yet? Any advice? thank you...

@Lauren I really do not mind waiting, they tell me I have to wait on my letter coming from Toyota head office (or) the DVLA, it does not seem anyone is in a great rush, which indicates this recall is not over-serious.
-
Went into my local dealer! who told me I had to wait for a confirmation letter from DVLA regarding the recall, not 100% sure if they are telling me porkies or they are actually telling me the truth.

Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013

Thanks for all the post I found them rather interesting, looking here https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/vehicle-information/recall-checker I used just to double check! and my 62 plate gt86 was definitely on the recall list (and yes) we can definitely establish it is, so basically, my local Toyota dealer is obliged to fix this valve issue free of charge? -
@86iain It seems I am in the same boat, my gt86 2012 does not have that also.
-
Many thanks, Gary & yes my vehicle has a recall from the 23rd March, so contacted Toyota, who reassures me I am not in any danger, and I can still drive around safely!! furthermore, they tell me they have not received a confirmation as yet what this defect is...
-
Don't follow Kaltorak (recall)?? this would be very nice...
-
Dude, you differently get my vote! as well as the guy in the video, man, that took some patience and some steady hands.
-
As mentioned Lauren in my opening post, my GT86 had a service done around October 2018 just over 37k, so the current mileage is now 38k, so they say 60k/6 years service, on a 62 plate, so really my next should be the *intermediate*, funny the "Service Schedule Plan" states it's a standard service with optional choices (spark plug change) £50 | break fluid change £45 and the list goes on..
-
Yes, I agree with you Gray!! it's a 3 years schedule plan broken down, they tell me also it includes 3 MOT(s), and we all know main dealers, by the way, sir "while checking" we found your rear tyre tread depth is (blah blah) and does not meet the 20p Test and the list goes on.

Welcome Protan to the community!
-
Ok sounds like a plan then!! wait until 60k, unfortunately, the Toyota representative who gave me that quote! is still waiting on my phone call or my appearance to go ahead with there 36 months planned billing, am I cutting off my nose to spite my face kinda thing here? (or) do I phone them and say thanks but I will wait a bit longer...

Awesome stuff mike and nick, some beautiful cars. -
Thanks Lucas but my points made still stands " do I really need my plugs done"? the car has not done 60k plus some comments I read. Lauren: Posted September 4, 2018 There is no point getting the plugs changed if you haven't done the mileage. For those of us that drive our cars, mine is 5.5 years old and is having it's 120K service tomorrow which will of course mean my plugs get changed for the second time round!

Well, it's very nice to be here, had my GT86 now for almost 1year loving it, before the GT86 it was the Toyota vvti which I added a sports catalyst and a twin exhaust straight throw & even added a KnN filter, hahaha good days had that for 8 years, now the GT86 nothing more than awesome.
-
Lauren i love my Toyota and will do my best on a budget (not) breaking the bank! currently, my GT86 has 35k miles on a 62 plate, remember I have only had this motor just under a year, there has been some service history on it, my main concern(s) from what I have been told, I need to keep an eye on the oil level. How true is this *does the GT86 use a lot of oil* ?? I had considered using (Engine Restorer ) from Engine Restore UK Limited, but was adviced this would be a bad idea, they told me!! they had read on this forum (ie) gt86.org.uk forum, that the Toyota GT86 engine has an AVCS VVTi engine. and would not recommend using Engine Restorer in my vehicle. While agreeing with your points Lauren, first I have to shop around for other dealers selling genuine Toyota parts, before heading off to the main dealer.
