Tuning developments Turbo and extras
Kodename47 replied to Mark-in-Stoke's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Parts
Would you be be willing to sell the oil cooler separately? -
Do you track the car a lot? If not then you don't need a BBK.... All a BBK affords you is heat capacity. Not many fit under the OEM wheels, the spoke to rim design isn't helpful in that regard. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19756

Respect is a very personal opinion I wasn't trying to be a keyboard warrior, I just hate misinformation. Would I buy a cheap eBay overpipe? Hell no. Which would I choose from Miltek, Cobra, H&S, Tomei, HKS etc?.... the cheapest (build spec dependent obviously). I have a mix and match exhaust, the only component that caused fitment issues was the cat-back, it was cheap so I expected no less. As I said, mix and match any quality component and you should be fine.
-
How? If Brand A's front pipe is designed to fit between stock overpipe and cat-back, as does Brand B, does that not mean that no matter what cat-back is on the car, so long as it's designed to replace the OEM cat-back, both will fit the same? The same analogy is true for all the components. All manifolds are designed that they will work with the stock overpipe, so therefore any replacement overpipe that is designed to fit the OEM manifold (all bar a couple) will be interchangeable no matter what manifold you run. The same therefore applies to the front pipe and no-one seems to care if the frontpipe and cat-back match, but why is that any different? So long as the flanges are the same size and pipe size isn't constantly changing, there should be no issues mixing and matching. Any brand can have a poor batch/friday job item, the jigs are designed that the parts are 100% modular. Even if you ordered the whole exhaust in parts from one company, they aren't bolted up and tested as one which means they are no different to ordering them separately from different manufacturers. I've read about more issues of cat-backs not fitting correctly, which surely should be perfect as they are from one manufacturer. Not once have I read the same due to a "poor" selection of mixed pipework... unless it was cheap copy eBay stuff.

Utter crap. They're pretty much all designed to be modular, ie you can swap any single component with stock. You're no less likely to have fitment issues if you get all the same brand. The only thing you have to be wary of is LHD (pretty much US market) components as the RHD steering column gets in the way. They don't always factor that in.

I didn't mean to order the fronts, error in Taiwanese eBay listings, but it gave me the chance to try them in place. The rears do a good job of hiding the chrome in the housing, but the fronts don't and as such don't really have a purpose. They're not eyelids, which are more aggressive but still meh, and don't cover that much. I honestly don't know how Modellista charge so much. It will blend so much better if it's body colour as essentially you're trying to shrink the lights, not accessorize them. I'm all for carbon fibre but think it looks tacky if just stuck on everywhere. Painted carbon is all the rage anyway..... Just enough to see the weave through the paint

That's why I told you not to buy a £200 overpipe.... They're all the bloody same.
-
From the eBay listing, I took photos of them before returning them: IMO they just didn't add anything to the look. The rear lights definitely have the bump, as do the original versions of the headlight covers. But it does seem that the OEM front lights don't. It is probably aero in some form, however minor. I think the RHS one is better.....
-
Are those the headlight covers? Both the headlight and the tail lights have the bump, they're a copy of the Modellista covers. Mine had really poor hydrodipped CF design on it, I just sprayed them body colour. Even on a grey car the CF looked out of place.

1) You'll be fine 2) You could flash back to stock, just need someone with an EcuTek cable. Shouldn't cost you. Probably no advantage to however, depends on how the mode 4 is setup, it may just be stock mapping anyway. Email Fensport? 3) You should be fine under warranty.

I got the Powerflex sub-frame inserts. Less than half that cost. Whiteline and Powerflex available from just about any good retailer..... might be worth actually calling/emailing vendors.

40mm is low on stock dampers. Damper life will be shortened. My Eibach based springs are ~20mm drop, they are of similar ride quality to stock, but they do bottom out easily. I'm not sure I'd run 40mm drop, it's definitely more for stance than performance as the sweet spot of the OEM suspension is only slightly lower than stock unless you start to use adjustable compoments. For reference, TRD and STi springs are only 15mm

Think I've been with them for 3 now. Better terms and still better in price than anyone else. Plus the option for guaranteed value etc if you have expensive mods, which is hard to come by (I've asked most when renewing). @nikndel I've found them to be the least like that, but then as an existing customer they already have my business. Last renewal the best I could get elsewhere was the same price, £150 higher excess and no cover on 3rd party vehicles. If I have a year when I can do more trackdays I would maybe try Greenlight, but so far I've not been impressed. I've had policies with Chris Knott and Sky before on this or my previous import, no issues with either.

GT86 Alternatives, Pros and Cons
Kodename47 replied to KobayashiMaru's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I drove a M235i on a very wet Goodwood, great fun car and unless you enjoy finding the limits of the 86 then I'd say that the BMW is the better car all round. I considered the switch. The engine in the BMW is actually a peach that likes to rev, I have heard the 240i's engine isn't quite as good in that regard. It handled well in the wet and wasn't the complete handful that the M4 was. Maybe I can see what @Lauren said about it being a point and squirt. but it has much more grip so I also have no doubt that it would be quicker in corners than the 86, after all BMW do know how to make a driver's car. There's still enough power to overwhelm the rear tyres and luckily it isn't just a complete torque monster that is hard to deal with. The only problem with it is that it doesn't look special enough, but then some like a Q car..... Having spoken to @Rich196 about his 135i, it wasn't well sorted for track work out of the box. Had overheating issues, even 1M's were susceptible. Seemed that wasn't the focus of the 1 series coupes. The M135i/235i's were pounding Goodwood all day and are regularly run on similar days. They seem to have sorted the issues that affected the 1st 1 series generation. Even the racing driver tutors spoke fondly of the baby M cars. I was just annoyed that I couldn't compare it to the M2 as there wasn't one to try on the day. -
Best lights available, better than either OEM. Shame they're so pricey for now.... I guess that's what happens when their 1st gen are ripped off so industrially.

Pretty much nailed it. Going to be a PITA to wrap and would probably have to remove it anyway to do it, meaning a good clean up and ensuring a good seal/adhesion is vital. The easiest would be to find a black or CF replacement, but you'll now have to make sure it is the same shape due to the wrap. A black OEM one isn't going to be cheap but is probably the best option. FWIW I think it looks fine as is, you still have a red bonnet and boot so doesn't look out of place.

I can confirm that the mapping hasn't changed much on the EU models. AFAIK the power delivery should be the same.

It's been proven they're made in the same place, whether official or not. Apparently this is why the Revos are being manufactured elsewhere. FT86speedfactory do their own range of colours, they look better than the official ones IMO. It's of little surprise you were told to avoid the cheaper ones by those who sell the official expensive ones -
I'm guessing he means frontpipe as some call it the DP..... but 2 overpipes.... +30hp at least.

They are Valenti's/White Label Valentis (depending on your view it seems). Made in the same factory regardless, should be no difference in quality. -

This makes no sense..... you pay duty and fees on anything from outside the EU. That is largely irrelevant to Brexit (*shrugs*). Everyone else has had to pay import fees when ordering from thespeedline, there's a number of people who have ordered from them on here. I would imagine ordering in larger numbers would highlight even further that you're not "receiving gifts"..... Customs guys aren't stupid -

You'll end up paying import duties etc. Factor that in.... -
I would assume P&P for the indicators and tapping the headlight DRL circuit.
