GT86 TRD STYLE FRONT FENDER FINS (ABS)

Its not the Griffin, that was the TRD test bed car. It's just the 14R60 and was the result of the Griffin. JDM limited edition as a track special, not just a kit. Parts only available as replacements in Japan so you can't even order them with a chassis number in Japan. http://www.evo.co.uk/toyota/gt-86/14541/trd-modified-toyota-86-14r60 More in depth here: http://www.7tune.com/new-release-the-limited-edition-toyota-14r60/

Edit: I think it might actually be the 14R60

Seen at Geneva yesterday. Toyota C-HR

It won't, they never do. Ever seen a Modelista 86 on the road (or any Toyota Modelista for that matter)? They are a JDM spec model, a bit like Mugen, TRD, Mazdaspeed etc. Aimed at the home market and can be spec'd via the dealers.

    Anyone Have This?

That seems very much the reasoning behind the ultra paranoid guys in the US. It's really a non issue with most of the dealers here.

    Overpipe removal

The heatshield refused to come off my OP. It was completely siezed on one of the bolts which made it an absolute PITA to do, however I left the manifold in place and could see that removing it would help. Being RHD the space is limited, IIRC I maneuvered it out the rear of the subframe. It's also quite common for threads to strip on the OEM stuff, but most aftermarket stuff comes with nuts and bolts anyway.

A baffled sump will only help if oil starvation is an issue from hard cornering. I'd imagine you'd never corner hard enough on the road for that to rear it's head. Plus there have been issues with some of the baffled sumps, restricting oil return. I know that's meant to be sorted on the Moroso ones now, but even the early versions created issues rather than sorting them. If you keep your oil near the max and don't run slicks then a baffled sump isn't really required. I wonder whether one of the valve rockers has gone, this seems like a weak point on the early engines. The problem there is whether a higher rev limit has been added as this will increase the probability of a failure.
  9. Why's it not possible? As Mike said above, run the OEM 2nd cat, or find one that works well. If stock turbo Scoobies can pass MOT then there's no reason we shouldn't have a config that's both legal and doesn't steal a ton of power. I can understand that the piping might not be ideal sized for a turbo application but people make good power on SC cars with stock cats.

As per usual, the Modelista looks much better than the TRD.

I'd be more pissed that they said one thing and then went back on it. They should have said from the off that this was likely. The issue is that as it's within warranty, would you risk taking it somewhere cheaper if there was a chance the warranty would sort it? The route I would take is let TGB take the engine and then decide where I want a new one put in, but then I don't need my car as a daily. Time to put a 2ZZ in it
  12. What would you recommend if someone wants to stay legal then? The stocker is good at keeping you legal and won't rob you of much power if not running crazy power.

That's because there's more Scions that Scoobies and there are a larger number stateside than here. Laws of probability. The build/engines are no different.

I'm not surprised if I'm honest and you can't really blame them for taking such a stance. The car is running performance enhancing mods and a remap, the dealership would be out of pocket if TGB refused the claim and as far as TGB know there could be a cause that isn't a factory issue. So long as it's not been knocking it's arse off and killing the rods/pistons/bearings and services have been carried out as per the schedule then you should be fine. Knowing people that work for Toyota, it's common place for parts to be sent off for inspection/diagnosis.

Lexus LC500 - what do we think?

It's bigger, shared platform with the LS, the RC is shared with GS. I didn't feel that the RC was that big, certainly didn't drive like it weighs and I tried the 300h which is more wooly than the 200t. Hopefully the V6 hybrid delivery is better than the 4 pot in the RC.

    Ross' TD Turbo Daily

The critical part is getting the water to shed the heat again in the water to air heat exchanger. In theory a water cooled charge will be more consistent than air-to-air, but it's the compromise between cost, complexity, packaging and added weight.

    A Cosworth 86 is better....

  20. The autos get different specs to the manual cars in all other markets, in fact the Euro spec manual is the same as the autos everywhere else. So it's only select markets that get the changed gearing.
  21. You already said that..... And it's correct. My above statement is true however.
  22. The new ones are 4.3 if they get the new FD. The 4.4 FD would suit a manual well IMO, the 67 more so for autos.

    Engine gone!?!?

The problem is, you don't know the history. I guess you will have to ask, get a friendly dealer.
