No they are RHD - it states run through the grommet by the master cylinder - ( there is a protuberance on this grommet that looks like it should be a wire feed but is capped at the end - the instructions say to cut the end off this and then seal it with silicone after running the cable through) and then across the top of the firewall under the windscreen wiper cowl to the battery The loom is designed to do this as the power wires split from the rest of the loom in the driver's footwell. the instructions have photos showing the routing

I'll photograph it tomorrow left the car half done as had a 4 hour band rehearsal to go to tonight
-
No it's not by the battery. it's by the brake master cylinder on the driver's side.

OK so been at this all afternoon. One problem How the hell do you cut the end off the firewall grommet where the power cables need to pass through into the engine bay? I've been trying for over an hour! HELP!!

fingers crossed

Got the big box home by folding down back seat and putting the box in through the passenger door. OK so what's in the box? First up the door drivers: They look OK with their carbon weave cones and some huge magnets on the back. They are premounted to 3 point brackets to use the same mounting points as OE.. Next we have the tweeters and a comprehensive installation instruction manual: these have neodymium magnets which make them featherweight - they are plug and play replacements for the dash tweeters Next we have the loom c/w fusebox, plastic sleeving, fuses and cable ties: This looks and feels very well made The DSP and amp are mounted on the back of the sub enclosure: And of course I had to put the sub enclosure in the boot to give an idea of what it would look like: That's it for now. I hope to do this on Saturday afternoon or Sunday, weather permitting.

The other day I was using my iPod Classic in the 86. It was playing when I switched the ignition off but when I switched the ignition back on the iPod refused to play. The USB input selector was unavailable and the iPod itself had a Toyota logo displayed on it and OK to Disconnect displayed. The iPod seemed dead... Eventually I managed to revive the iPod by pressing the middle button and the top of the round bit simultaneously for a few seconds. Is this because it was playing when I switched the ignition off? Should i stop the iPod before switching the ignition off? has anyone else experienced iPod lock up with their T&G HU?
-
Assume it displays when the HU is connected - can't say i'd noticed it before as it lives under the closed arm rest most of the time.

No it is a US aftermarket product no distributor in UK - They assured me the loom they have provided fits the UK spec RHD Toyota T&G HU.I hope they are right. This is a recent addition to their catalogue. Did you check out the link?

The kit I have ordered is for UK spec RHD 86 with Toyota T&G HU. I made sure of that before I ordered.

rob - don't forget I requested front logo only - you need to edit your list ;-) Thanks awfully

Totally date dependent for me but I'm interested if I can fit it in around work/band/child care commitments etc etc

The answer is neodymium magnets. I play bass and have a 1200W 2x12" +1" tweeter bass cabinet that weighs a mere 42lb. Believe me that is light for that size of rig. The drivers in that have neodymium magnets which is how they are so light. I also am looking to improve the sound quality in the 86 but wanted to keep the HU. I opted for the oemaudio+ reference400cf kit which provides 2 x dash tweeters, 2 x carbon coned door woofers, 1 x 8" sub in custom enclosure, 1 x 360W DSP amp. 1 x 120W sub amp and a loom designed to plumb the whole thing into the existing loom and keep the stock HU. It adds 20lbs overall but for me seems a good solution. I hope - it is due to arrive this week and I hope to install it this weekend.

A story: Years ago I was living at home. One wednesday evening I think it was, my Dad came home and took a look at my Spitfire parked outside Dad: "Ian, I really think you need to get that tyre swapped, that front left is looking bald, go and put the spare on before you have an accident" Me: "Dad, it'll wait until the weekend" Dad: "No it won't" Me:"It will, it's too late now, I'll sort it out on Saturday" Dad:" If you won't do it, I'll do it..." So Dad rushes outside, jacks up the Spit, removes the wheels and starts swapping them around so the best tread is on the rear driven wheels and the bald is in the boot... Next morning is glorious. I am driving up the M1 towards J9 on my way to MK for work, roof down, lovely. I have just overtaken a truck when I suddenly hear, KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK<....silence, BANG! and I see my nearside front wheel rolling away bouncing from the middle lane, towards the hard shoulder and over the armco, down the embankment. Meanwhile the front corner of the Spit has dropped and started to scrape and huge sparks are flying from where the disc is scraping along the road. I swerved to the left and was lucky to come to stop on the hard shoulder before hitting the barrier. The truck I had just overtaken pulled in in front. The driver got out " I was just cruising along thinking how perfect it would be to be in a lovely little car like yours whe your wheel came off and bounced across in front of me, nearly gave me a heart attack!" said the driver. Anyway the police arrived and managed to turn every single wheel nut remaining on the car at least half a turn. We found the wheel that had come off in a tree in a field. The front near side had worn through the lower wishbone and the disc was almost semicircular..... Scary it was... Lesson: always torque your nuts!

Yeah looks pretty tame but if it had been me behind the wheel I certainly would've needed a change of underwear, wouldn't you?
