Alarm went off properly!! Had to take the battery out. Now the 'quiet alarm' is sounding and won't bloody stop!!!

I just make sure I select my door key on the keyring before I get out of the car. And I blip the remote for the burglar alrm at the same time too. I also always reverse park - I hate numpties who forward park and then reverse into the road.

I'm wondering if I only got 1 key blade that matches my door barrel after it was stolen ? The 2 keys do look the same but perhaps they're subtley different?

OK so hooked up a battery charger....alarm went off REALLY quietly - responded to key fob alarm off button...now to wait to see if it'll hold charge....I'll try it about midnight I reckon.

Can I hook a battery charger up without taking the battery out? Or will this damage something?

Hurrah! Found the spare key at last! Got into car 1st try. Weird Do i have to take the battery out to charge it or can I hook up a charger while it's in situ?

and I can only find one of the keys. I am so paranoid after having the car stolen with the key a couple of years ago that I can't remember the 'safe place' I put the spare

I am suspecting that after my lock change a couple of years ago my blade key no longer matches the barrel in the door

Will a PDR man be able to deal with these? If so how much would it cost? If not then what is best solution? IMO you've let them off lightly. If indeed they did agree to cover you on the terms you describe then they should provide a policy as described for the term originally agreed for no additional fee. If it were me I'd insist on it.

I would expect AF to foot the bill to ensure that you are covered on an insurance policy with the terms that you were sold. If that means cancellation and then switching underwriters then AF should cover all the costs. You were told you were buying one thing, they sold you another - their responsibility to fix it. One of my cars is insured through AF - I'll think very carefully before considering renewing with them if this is the way they treat customers.

Even I am kinda tempted now......but won't I need a beefier clutch? I suppose I could buy the kit and just leave it in the corner until I sort out clutch and brakes and zorst as well....hmmm costs are mounting...and then there's the increased insurance premium....hmmm - a few days left to decide....

I notice that the Scion FR-S has some straps in the boot that allow the rear seat to be folded down from within the boot space. My GT86 doesn't seem to have these. Is it supposed to have them? I fold the rear seat down often and find it a pain to open the doors, reach in and press the button. These straps would make things a whole lot easier.

I ended up getting the ECU changed and 2 new keys - due to many delays I got it a significantly reduced price

So i have a solution to carry my kayak! - to be revealed one day.... To be secure I need to tie down both bow and stern with ratchet straps. The best point to secure these are the towing eyes ( all 3 - 2 on rear and one on front ) As you all know our cars come with just the one. I know some of you have bought fancy alloy towing eyes so you must have the standard ones going spare, haven't you? And I'll wager I'm the only one of us likely to want to carry a kayak... So what say you to giving your std towing eyes a new home?

This reminds me of an event from my past. Many years ago, during a period of living at my parents' house near Watford, I owned a Triumph Spitfire.I was working in Milton Keynes and commuted up the M1 from J5 every morning. One evening my Dad came home, walked in and told me that he wasn't happy with the condition of one of my tyres on my car and that I should rotate the tyres and get the one he didn't like changed. I told him I'd get it sorted that weekend. He flew off on one and insisted I do it 'now'.....I dug my heels in and insisted I'd sort it at the weekend. He went off in a strop and took it upon himself to do it himself. He swapped the 'dodgy' wheel for the spare and swapped the front and rear axles. Next morning was a glorious sunny morning. I set off for work in MK with the roof down. Everything was fine until I overtook a lorry on the M1 at about 70 and heard bang bang bang from the front left corner, then I saw my front left wheel rolling away from me and the front left corner smashed down on the ground and the car tried to turn left. I watched the wheel roll along the road and bounce over the barrier and off into the countryside. I was in the middle lane, having just overtaken a truck! the car swerved to the left and very luckily I brought it to a stop on the hard shoulder before hitting the barrier. The truck i'd just overtalken pulled in infront of me. The driver got out. He was a bit shaken up as I had obviously swerved in front of him. He told me he'd just been thinking how what a wonderful day it was to have a little convertible sports car like mine when the wheel had come off! We both went looking for the rogue wheel. It was stuck in a tree down the embankment! On inspecting the front left corner the brake disc had worn down all the way to the bottom trunnion in just the couple of hundred yards it had been gouging the tarmac! So the brake and suspension were both fucked. The police turned up, as they tend to do if you're stuck on the hard shoulder. They went round my car with a wheel brace and managed to turn every wheel nut by at least 1/2 turn! My Dad did feel a bit guilty and sorted me new front suspension and brakes as his pennance.
