The weight of the batteries is one aspect. Another aspect is the continuous variable transmission (CVT), which isn't great for circuit use. Also, when used intensively, the batteries easily run out of power. The concept works best for front wheel driven cars, as most braking power is on those wheels. All wheel drive would be an alternative, but less fun. My last car was a Prius 3, which I drove for about 100,000 miles. The concept is great for all day use, but don't expect the direct response required for fast lap times, drifting and other fun. The car was extremely reliable and pretty quick from 0 to 50 mph.

Out in the snow, February 2017, sped up 8 times. Music: Drop the Bomb by Disorder. The bass was played by me.

1) The Saab wasn't speeding, I sped up the video by a factor 8. 😉 2) We drive on the right side of the road. 😂 3) There are just a few spots wide enough to let a car get by. 😉

That's one cylinder and about 25% CO2 less. It's not easy to compare NA and turbo engines, as their use and characteristics differ a lot. I'm not advocating one or the other concept, but I'm not sure if I'd like to have a 3-cylinder engine... 🤔

Regarding environmental aspects, a turbo won't be very effective. This mainly holds for large engines with 6, 8 or more cylinders. Those can be significantly downsized by chopping off a few buckets, reducing friction, thermal loss and intake loss. A turbo charged Mini is in the same ballpark as the GT86, regarding emission and fuel consumption.

Great! The question is, will it be fitted with a turbo?

I know about British trains and fees. 😱 I travelled quite a few times from and to one of London's airports by train. At least your trains are on schedule. That's not the case over here. Being a car owner, who's happy to drive, I rarely travel by train; maybe once over the past twenty years. I happen to go to the Canary islands a few times a year. Over there the petrol price is about 60% from what we pay over here.

I'm not sure how the money is spent. There are too many unemployed too be fed. From our (also way to expensive) road tax only 25% gets invested in infrastructure. Here's a link to the Dutch Subaru site: Subaru BRZ

The Netherlands is car hell. On top of VAT there's an extra car tax which rises exponentially with CO2 production. ☹️ Do they really think they can save the world or is it just another income for the state? To my guestimation there may be around 100 GT86's on our roads. This tax is so severe that Toyota decided to discontinue the GT86 in Holland. The last price for a new GT86 was 63190 euros. The BRZ is still on sale for this horrifying price. Buying abroad doesn't change the situation, as we have to pay this stupid tax anyway. I bought mine used, 2.5 years old, with just under 50000 km. I paid more than a German would have paid for a new one. 😥
