No idea yet but remember this isn't a newly built engine like the last one was, she's got 53k miles on her with all the standard internals. These V8's are fairly bullet proof up to about 600bhp so in theory I should be able to boot it as soon as we've got the mapping sorted. Then again we still need to run in the new diff which apparently consists of driving in a figure of 8 for 30mins and then doing an oil change on it...

Me too!

A nice clean example for someone who wants to add their own touches but with some punch under the bonnet Good luck with the sale Dan!

Been a bit quiet recently, but that doesn't mean no progress! This is where we're at so far: Engine built Manual gearbox adapter plate finished BMW 6 speed gearbox mounted to the engine Engine and gearbox mounts finalised and powder coated Rotrex supercharger mount made Upgraded driveshafts (capable of 600bhp) fitted Kaaz 1.5 way differential fitted into OEM diff housing OEM propshaft cut down to size Injector looms made and ECU almost finished We are almost there! We're just finishing off the ECU connections to the dash, pipework for the supercharger and waiting for the chargecooler to arrive as well. Not much left to do before we start her up for the first time Also picked up my front bumper after having the holes in the number plate filled in and a full respray to get rid of all the stonechips I've picked up. Local bodyshop did an amazing job as always. I was tempted to take the whole car there to get everything done but it's not a priority right now Test fitting the new coloured badge which has been sitting in the garage since I had the interior sprayed Wouldn't even be able to tell there were holes in the bumper previously We're still aiming to have her completed for a show on 26th June...time is tight but we're still confident

It's really not that big a stretch. I probably could have had 245 or even 255 if I wasn't so low
-
Nope, I had 235/40 all round
-
I had that fitment Dave, it was very agressive and needed 235/40 tyres to fit under the arches properly. But my car is fairly low so depending how low yours is you might be able to get a slightly wider tyre on there

Yes Dave, sorry Admin please close

As some of you know, I'm a bit of a wheel whore and I've seen another set that I now want... I would love to buy them outright, but I think it's time to sell my JR11's to pay for the new set for a few reasons: I value my testicles fairly highly...I think the Mrs would genuinely castrate me if I added another set of wheels to my already extensive collection Sort of running out of space in the garage to keep stacking wheels Trying to save as much money as possible with the V8 build ongoing at the moment... So, who wants a practically NEW set of JR11 wheels in Hyper Black? These wheels have only seen a few thousand miles of road and are in absolutely MINT condition with no scratches, kerb marks on the faces. All you have is a few sticker marks on the inside of the rim where the wheel weights were added from the 1st set of tyres, but this can easily be cleaned off if I don't find time to do it myself Wheel specs are as follows: Diameter - 18" Width - 9.5J ET30 Hyper Black These are a fairly aggressive fitment as you can see from the pictures. I'm currently running 235/40/18 tyres which tuck them nicely under the arches. Tyres are all in good condition with around 4-5mm tread remaining, Hankook Ventus V12 on 2 and Hankook S1 Evo on the other 2 Ideally looking to sell just the wheels but might be able to include the tyres if the price is right Price for wheels alone - £600 Price for wheels and tyres - £800 Located in Surrey, ideally looking for collection but can arrange delivery or meeting at a show or something if someone is too far to collect

Doubt I'll be ready for this now

There are? Where'd you see that?

Another busy day was spent taking out the interior, test fitting the bucket seats, creating a mount for the 5 strap on my harnesses to bolt onto and obviously continuing with the engine Seat just about fits! Engine mounts are finished and sent off to the powder-coaters to be made a little prettier. Gearbox mount is also finished, you can see where we've used the original mounts that we chopped off and welded back into the tunnel a bit further back for the BMW box. Both the OEM and BMW box have the same mount for the shifter, just needs to be made a little longer due to the BMW box being around 2 inches shorter So engine block and gearbox are all mounted in position, next was to start drawing up ideas for the location and mounting point of the supercharger, oil reservoir and lines for the charger, inlet and outlet pipes for the supercharger and routing for pipes for air filter and intercooler Nev and Lee will be continuing to work hard on the car over the next few weeks and I'll be popping in whenever I can to help out and get updates. All coming together nicely!

Small end bearing failure

It really is mate. We thought the tunnel would be a real issue but everytime we line something up, it's almost like it was made to fit! Final designs were sent off to the laser cutter tonight so we should have a full set of mounts tomorrow/Friday which Nev can then use as part of a kit for anyone else wanting a 1UZ swap I reckon we'll start building the block and have the charger mounting position by the end of the week
-
Engine and gearbox mounts basically finished today. The BMW box sits about 40mm short compared to the OEM box, so we've made the remote shifter a bit longer to accommodate for this. But apart from that, we're very surprised and pleased with how everything fits
-
The difference is literally a few kg's from my research. The FA20 is fairly heavy for a 4 cylinder as it has the 2 heads of course. We'll get it all weighed once everything is in, I don't see it being anything more than 1250kg total which is basically what the stock car is
-
Never use it and just frees up a lot more room for the charger to sit nicely. Not to mention saving weight!
-
The number of times I've used it in the 86 can be counted on 1 hand. Windows down is a much preferred option for me

Today was the big day! Been waiting for this for so long, I can't explain how excited I am! Loaded and ready to be taken to her new home for the next few weeks This is what we had to start with...an empty, lonely engine bay But within an hour, we had a mock engine block and BMW gearbox made up ready for test fitting in the car We were very happy at the initial fitment, having compared the OEM box to the BMW box and worrying how much taller the BMW gearbox is that it wouldn't fit in the narrow gearbox tunnel. But with a bit of jiggery-pokery, we got it in a position where we were happy that everything would sit and mount very nicely. The ONLY modification we have made to get this to fit as we wanted was to take the sound deadening and the 2 spot welded sections either side of the tunnel to make it slightly wider at the top Once these were removed, it's almost like it was made to fit Next up was designing some engine mounts using the existing holes in the subframe obviously. These will be fabricated over the next day or so along with the gearbox mount so the initial position is sorted much quicker than we first thought. We've decided to get rid of the A/C to make room for the Rotrex supercharger. I never ever use it and as well as freeing up some room, it will allow us to use the A/C radiator for something else All in all, a really successful and exciting day. We've got the engine, gearbox and sump all to fit very nicely and have pretty much planned the position, routing of piping, wiring etc for everything else. Mounts will be the next big thing to secure everything into place and then it's onto plumbing and wiring Stay tuned!

Check the bonnet sensor. It's a sort of rubber bit on a spring in the top left of the engine bay if you're looking at it from the front of the car There's like a cup attached to the bonnet which pushes the sensor down when it's closed. If it doesn't align properly then the alarm can go off because it thinks the bonnet is open Sorry if I haven't explained that very well

For the price, you might as well just buy this. Would save you a lot of hassle and the repair probably won't be far off the price of this...

Nope can't make this one -
Of course with a pair of extra hands for the charger

You forget that apart from the engine build that Abbey did, I have built every part of this car myself There will be some major updates during the week!
-
No passenger rides for you slags then!
