Yeah it's not the best, but I think the end result is better than the version with two separate halves. I spent a considerable amount of time fettling the metal brackets on mine with a dremel, loads of test fits etc. You'll get there with it. -

Congrats! Make sure you use plenty of loom tape on the wires to as not to create any more rattles I connected the GPS antenna and fitted it inside the dash just above the stereo. In the BRZ there's a little box on a bracket in there to do with the alarm and it fitted along side that nicely. It only has plastic and glass above it so the signal is good. My understanding is that the antenna is used when navigating to save power on the phone, so I think it's worth hooking it up especially since it can be hidden away inside the dash. -

Sorry, to be clear I believe the last I saw Samsung had fixed the One UI issue, so you ought to be ok now. The automatic volume adjustment - you're right, it does not work unfortunately. I've also wired that up but it does nothing. Probably only a firmware update needed to enable it but having looked through said firmware trying to find other customisation hooks it's fairly complicated. I don't find myself adjusting the volume too much, unless I've been at speed and needed it turned up. But having not been able to drive much lately it hasn't really been an issue! -

The only thing with the Samsungs I'm aware of is there was a recent update to their flavour of Android (One UI I think?) which caused some issues. Have a look at r/androidauto on Reddit for any kind of issues like that. Usually it's on the handset side of things rather than the head unit/vehicle. Wireless AA does use a fair chunk of power especially if you're navigating, so don't bin that USB cable just yet -

Hi Conscript, congrats on the 8020 purchase, I'm sure you'll enjoy it especially if you're coming from the stock head unit as I was. With the right fascia adapter (I used Connects2 CT23SU07 from Dynamic Sounds) and a bit of time and fettling you'll get a great fit. I was disappointed about not being able to get the WS unit here in the UK and didn't fancy risking buying one from overseas. On the unit itself - the screen is capacitive and very sensitive, and the important physical volume buttons work very well. Wireless AA works very well with my OnePlus 5T although I've only used it when using navigation so far. I have a small USB stick for music in the glovebox. The Google Assistant works great or as well as it usually does with AA! I've positioned the microphone on the head lining just to the drivers side of the mirror which is usually fine but you have to raise your voice a bit if you're at speed because of the road noise in the car. The UI of the headunit is a little dated compared to AA but it's functional and once you learn your way around it's fine. If you do listen to music on a USB stick and like to shuffle the whole thing then there's a bug in the software to be aware of. When you start the head unit after listening to tracks on random, the next track it plays will be the next track in its predecessors album, rather than an actual random next track. It sorts itself out after that, and you can skip to next as well. A very minor grievance on an otherwise excellent system. These are all of the parts I used for my install: Post or PM if you have any other questions... -
This should get you started, I'm fairly certain I've used 4x of these: https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/products/1-x-canbus-bright-amber-led-indicator-bulb-no-hyperflash-7440-w16w-w21w-t20-582 That's your front and rear indicators. None of the other bulbs need to be CAN bus compatible. You'll want the little wedge bulbs for side repeaters and the rear number plate (I think), and bigger ones for the reverse lights. All of the bulb sizes are in the owners handbook so just cross-reference on the website and you'll find what you need.
-
Wow, an 11 minute video for replacing some bulbs. Anyway, I've done all of mine (including number plate, reverse, and interior) and the car looks much more modern. Buy the CAN bus compatible bulbs and you don't need to worry about changing the flasher unit. I got all of mine from https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/, highly recommended.

Definitely vented. Just bought a set of these for mine: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brembo-Rear-Axle-Brake-Disc-Set-Subaru-BRZ-09-C662-11-/283705843947

My experience buying from Car Audio Centre - plus some heroes
Shad posted a topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
I find it's rare to have a bad experience with a retailer online these days so this one stuck out and I thought it would be worth sharing. I ordered a head unit and various bits and pieces to complete the install in my BRZ on Monday from Car Audio Centre. When I checked the order on Tuesday, expecting it to ship, it now said 'back order'. I called the customer support line and was told that some of the accessories weren't currently in stock but would arrive with them by Thursday. I asked if I would have my order by the weekend and was assured that would be fine. Fair enough. Side note - I don't think their website makes it clear enough when something isn't in stock, so beware of that. Thursday comes around and I give them a call again around 2pm to see what the latest is. At least one of those items which were back ordered had not arrived yet. Not ideal. So I asked if they could at least ship me the head unit and whatever else was there for me to get on with. "The head unit is out of stock now as well". I was so shocked I had to have him repeat that. Bear in mind, the money for the full order had been taken from my card, so as far as I was concerned those items on the order were mine. Except it turns out they don't allocate stock to an order in that way, and this is their policy. I was pretty annoyed by this so immediately cancelled the order, and have this morning received my refund. I'm still in disbelief that a business can operate that way - in theory I could end up never receiving an order as things go in and out of stock! So you may want to consider my experience if you're ever thinking about buying things from Car Audio Centre. So after all of that, and a bit of ringing around to speak to other retailers, I finished ordering my bits and pieces from Dynamic Sounds and Car Audio Security, both of whom were great and all my items arrived next day. Also praise to Road Audio who I ordered from on Monday and the items arrived next day. -
Happy to help, I fitted one a couple of months ago (great unit by the way, aside from a couple of minor/annoying software bugs). Here's what I used: Kenwood DMX8020DABS - https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/kenwood-dmx8020dabs-7-double-din-dab-radio-bluetooth-android-auto-carplay-wifi.html Connects2 CT23SU07 double DIN fascia adapter - https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects2-ct23su07-subaru-brz-2012-double-din-car-stereo-fascia-panel-adaptor-kit.html Connects2 CT27UV70 DAB antenna - https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects2-ct27uv70-universal-discreet-amplified-dab-digital-radio-antenna-glass-mount-aerial.html InCarTech PC2-17-4/2 Toyota ISO adapter - http://www.roadradio.com/wiring-fascia-adaptors/PC2-17-42/4883/ InCarTech ICT21-147 amplified antenna adapter - http://www.roadradio.com/wiring-fascia-adaptors/ICT21-147/7350/ Connects2 CTSUBARUUSB USB socket adapter - http://caraudiosecurity.com/ctsubaruusb-subaru-brz-2012-oem-usb-socket-adaptor Most of the bits are available from multiple places so shop around, but AVOID Car Audio Centre like the plague - see Also, the brackets for the fascia kit needed a bit of fettling for the perfect fit, but judge for yourself on the outcome: https://imgur.com/a/Bix4c4r

As above - last night the painfully slow car selection process didn't seem to select anything, and this morning I got all the way through to picking a BRZ and then was shown I'd selected a DC5 Integra. The search system isn't great either. Not sure 20% is enough incentive to persevere with the website, but if you keep the following please provide direct links: Brembo 09.A921.11 x2 Brembo 09.C662.11 x2 Cosworth CS-Pro Street Meister front pads Cosworth CS-Pro Street Meister rear pads

Hi everyone I'm the proud new owner of a 2015 Subaru BRZ in blue with just under 25k miles, as of 2 weeks ago today. So a little about me - I was daily'ing a Volvo V40 until being furloughed at the end of March, and with the Volvo not seeing much use and the risk of losing my job, I exited the finance agreement and replaced it with a 2001 Mazda MX-5. The Mazda is great and a fun project (it needed a fair amount of servicing and fixing up), but even I will admit now it's just not practical enough and was a bit of a spur of the moment purchase (test driving a convertible on a sunny summer's day, who wouldn't have bought it?!). I'll be finishing off some jobs on that car soon, ready to sell in the spring. Then browsing the classifieds one evening, as you do, I chanced upon a GT86 and realised it could be exactly what I need - practical enough in terms of boot space, decent creature comforts, and a fairly entertaining drive. I remembered sitting in one at Goodwood in 2013 and the "just right" feeling. When I came across this BRZ for sale it seemed ideal, although was less so when I viewed it in person (not exactly the full service history as advertised). So here I am, two weeks later, absolutely loving the thing. The very first job I did was replace the original tyres (which were all cracking on the sidewalls quite badly) with some new Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2s. Then last weekend I changed the engine oil and filter, gearbox oil, diff oil, brake fluid, clutch fluid, pollen filter, air filter, and added injector cleaner. Unfortunately the car had not been serviced since August 2018 and was about 6k miles overdue - not ideal, but not terrible either. The car is now running brilliantly - smooth and quiet, excellent MPG (an indicated 41 just on the way home from picking it up), and lovely balanced handling. In fact I'm having to give it a bit more respect than I originally thought. My weekend toy is a Caterham 7 which obviously wipes the floor with the BRZ, and just about anything else. But the BRZ has about 15hp more, and much less grip, and surprise surprise likes to move around a bit! I'm not convinced I understand what the traction control/stability control is trying to achieve half the time but I'll get a better idea after a track day in the spring hopefully. My only gripes with the car so far are the clutch feel and lack thereof, the slow response of the throttle pedal, and a slightly long brake pedal. The clutch I will have a play with the bite point position, and may also change the pedal spring and possibly the slave cylinder too. The throttle I get the feeling that will need a remap to resolve, so that can probably wait. And the brake pedal, I suspect that's just how it is after doing some research (it's better for the fluid change, and the pedal comes to you with a bit of heat in the brakes, and it stops fine with no pedal creep). I also have the ubiquitous rattle/creak from the rear deck/parcel shelf to try and fix. Oh and the stereo is really irritating - do they all revert back to radio every time you start the car? And why doesn't it remember the shuffle settings on USB?! Infuriating. So that's me in a nutshell - love the car, loved reading and researching here and elsewhere before buying, and looking forward to a good few years of ownership until a GR Yaris is within reach...
-
I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but in case you are, that could invalidate your insurance. The car is a lot easier to steal (or even something like the wheels) with the battery disconnected and the alarm not going off...

Has anybody painted their stock mudflaps body colour so they blend in a bit better?

Toyota 2015 GT86 Limited Giallo Edition - 2.0 L D-4S 200 bhp Petrol - 25,000 miles
Shad replied to ganesa's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Cars
Nice find - here's the listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2015-15-TOYOTA-GT86-Giallo-Yellow-Edition-2-0-D-4S-200-bhp-Limited-Edt-72-86-VGC/114579025367?hash=item1aad712dd7:g:DCQAAOSwcAlf2p2t Seems legit. Listed by a clothing business near Glasgow, the name on the YouTube channel comes back to someone in Glasgow, probably an employee of the company. The name on the eBay listing payment details matches the owner of the company, Angels of Vintage 👍👍 -

Reads like a trade ad. Car is/was located in Glasgow judging by the Silvergrove Street address on the sat nav, photos match satellite images. -
The standard basic Subaru head unit is not great as we know, so I'd like to replace it with something that will offer Android Auto (and Apple Car Play). I've been doing some reading and there are obviously a variety of double-din units, but what can you guys recommend today? I'd really love something that doesn't need a bit of plastic fascia to fill in any gaps, and I believe such units do exist (or at least, did). Are they still available and relevant? Car is a late 2015 BRZ. Some things I'd be keen to have from a new unit: No additional fascia trim Capacitive touch screen Physical buttons for volume and track skip (a rotary dial for volume would be amazing but they seem to be out of fashion) Retain the factory USB socket, and maybe even the 3.5mm input too Android Auto as a priority Fast start-up Not cost the Earth! I rarely listen to radio so I'm not bothered about DAB support (car doesn't have the DAB ariel anyway). There's also the cheaper Android head units, are they really any good? They seem like a security nightmare waiting to happen since I can't imagine they're going to be receiving any OS updates. Thoughts welcome, thanks!
-
If your unit has an input for VSS then it ought to work connected to the pin I mentioned, I think? I'm trying to piece this all together from various forum posts all over the place.
-
Ok new question... what are people doing for their vehicle speed sense (VSS) connection? Looks like pin 17 on the 28-pin connector. Not entirely sure if my head unit will need it or not, but if it does, would like to know what others are doing for this one. Thanks
-
Perfect, thank you!
-
So I reached out to a supplier in Aus about shipping a unit over and although they used to do that, they no longer ship overseas due to a number of potential issues. I also reached out to a local Kenwood dealer about sourcing one but haven't heard anything, so after getting a bit impatient I've gone with a UK spec 'double din' headunit and a fascia adapter. If I really don't like the look I might see about making a custom bit of trim that changes the 200mm stereo hole to a standard size one. Anyway, question for you guys who've installed a stereo - what is the small flylead on the aerial adapter for? Where does that go?? Hard to find any information online, I'm guessing it's either a ground, or +12v to amplify the aerial?

I don't know a great deal about what these cars respond to in terms of setup, but it sounds like you already have a good amount of camber on the front, especially for a road tyre. How about corner weights and rake? From my own experience of Brands I find as soon as the car is over the crest at Clearways it's much more settled, but before then it can be a mixture of oversteer and understeer. If you get the line just a tiny bit wrong, there's very little grip. Make sure you're not getting back on the throttle before the apex too as that's a sure fire way to generate understeer, something I've struggled with for years. I used to feel like I had understeer issues for a long time with the Caterham in high speed turns, Abbey and Copse at Silverstone in particular. Almost all of it was down to my technique. See if you can get some time with an instructor next track day and they might have some useful pointers. We're never too old to learn new things! Not sure if this will be useful or not but this is a clip from a few years ago at Clearways. Notice how I didn't brake deep enough into the corner and found room to open the throttle again, create some understeer, then off the throttle to tighten up... it's a bit of a mess. This is not the fastest way! But I'm then patient with the car as we go through the corner and over the crest so the exit is decent. https://youtu.be/jolTdf_TNE8?t=73 In contrast, this is the approach to Copse at Silverstone and you can see I'm braking much deeper and keeping more weight over the front wheels to help that turn in - trail braking properly. I could go deeper still but not by a lot. Once you get to that point and you apply some throttle it will help continue rotating the car. In this instance I still felt I had too much push on the exit but that's just how the car works. https://youtu.be/X5y5O9EyiLE?t=78 Anyway it sounds like there are plenty of knowledgable people here so if you want to share any onboard I'm sure we can see if there's anything easy (and free!) you can change first

I've been investigating the possible causes for a clunk/rattle I get at low speed on rough surfaces. All of the suspension components (which are also all standard) seem perfectly fine, so I'm now fairly certain it's being caused by a damaged EPS coupler after coming across a few threads on the FT86 Club forum that explain the same issue and extra tips for diagnosis. Has anyone here done the work outlined in this post? How did you get on? https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3199017 Everyone there seems to say that aside from some tricky bolts, it's a fairly simple job. The Hyundai replacement rubber gear is available for about £13 from Amazon.

The mats that came with my car have blue stitching and embroidery. Which is fine - except it doesn't match the red stitching on the rest of the interior. It does match the exterior colour though. I've since discovered you can also get these genuine Subaru mats with red stitching/embroidery, which makes a lot of sense to me. But it got me thinking - was there a version of the BRZ with blue stitching on the interior, to match the mats? For the other BRZ owners, which colour mats have you got and do they match the inside or the outside?!
