Thanks @will300 - suddenly the blue stitching makes a lot more sense! @Kaltorak You can order the official Subaru mats via a dealer, £70 or so. I believe in other countries you can also get good tailored winter/rubber mats too, which would be nice to have here too to be honest.

Thanks Simon, I'll try and make if we're allowed as you say! I've been doing my hardest to avoid Facebook lately, oh well! That link isn't working though - have you got a link to the main group by any chance? I can probably find it from there. Thanks and sorry for the thread derail...

Is that a breakfast meeting kind of event? I'm not far away. Used to go to the White Lion events with the Caterham until they stopped doing them.

A common issue that's by far and away the worst creak/rattle in the car. I've seen a video showing how you can stuff some foam into the void underneath the trim from the boot. I'd like to go a step further and remove the trim to fit a large piece of upholstery foam underneath. Does that sound doable? I can see there are 4 clips on the front edge of the trip piece, but does any other trim need to come out as well? Any guesses what thickness foam would work, before I take it apart? Thanks

Welp, there's still an occasional creaking/ticking noise from the back 🤦♂️😂 I'm damn sure it's not the parcel shelf now tho, and the brake light seems unlikely after some minor mods to that too. Anything else common back there for making noises?
-
Great video, really cleared things up, thank you! Used a combination of some foam and some fabric wiring loom tape on the shelf and brake light, so if it still makes any noise then I will just live with it! Thanks for your help all

Had an attempt at this last night. Didn't quite go to plan. First of all, how to you actually get the brake light off in a BRZ? I thought I understood the workshop diagram/instructions but maybe not. The unit would split in two ok, but I couldn't detach it from the parcel shelf (without risking breaking something). Are the two legs at the front supposed to lift up and unclip, and then the unit slides forward? The parcel shelf did appear to be partially glued down, but with the brake light still on I couldn't get it moving enough to come out. So I resorted to the above approach and strategically stuffed some foam in from underneath. There was something metal on the RHS that seemed to buzz when that area of the car was tapped, which was easily solved. Did a test drive and it was ok for a few miles then back to being noisy again.

Seems to work quite well on snow with some suitable tyres!

Hello and welcome from another new member 🙋♂️ I had the same paint on a Toyota iQ a few years ago. Lovely colour, although a pain to keep clean like any white car. The blue on the BRZ is a triple coat paint so just as much of a hassle for damage. As above, I wouldn't worry too much. Just drive and enjoy!

Just looked into wireless AA a bit more. Some of the info is a bit old now so if you've got a fairly up to date phone it ought to be a bit simpler now. I'm using a OnePlus 5T on Android 10 and all I had to do to enable the wireless option was enable developer settings in Android Auto and then check the box, rather than installing any beta software on the phone. Android 11 phones, Pixels, and some Samsungs should all just work out of the box without any developer settings. Based on what I've found it should work with the DDX919WS - @Varelco are you able to test by any chance? Info from:

Ok that makes sense, thanks. As well as fitting some foam I'll see if there's anything I can do to the brake light unit and cable run to help there 👍
-
That's really useful, thanks @will300. I guess I just need to remove the brake light before trying to bend it in the middle. Do you think the brake light rattle is from the brake light against the glass, or something else?
-
Ah you beat me to it @Varelco, was just writing basically exacty the same reply Thanks for your input though, very useful. I don't need a mech but for me the screen resolution and wireless AA are good future-proofing options so will probably go with the 920 if the cost isn't too bad.

Maybe I should wait a few months for the '21 units then! Good to know they're decent bits of kit though. Can you share who you imported yours from? Would you recommend them? I might see if I can find a UK distributor and ask if they can get a W unit. Surprised they don't have them in the UK, I wouldn't have thought our market is much different from Austrailia or othe regions.

Some potential options: Kenwood DMX8020DABS - double-din, available in the UK, wireless Android Auto, mixed reviews on Amazon Kenwood DDX920WDABS - 200x100mm, import to the UK only, wireless Android Auto, no fascia required The second one is appealing but it would mean shipping and import taxes from overseas. There's an Austrailian seller that also includes a full harness/wiring kit for a BRZ which helps. But it's a whole bunch more hassle (and money) over the 8020 🤔 Is anybody using wireless Android Auto yet?
-
Thanks @Varelco. I've looked into some more of the Chinese Android units and it seems like a complete minefield. Devices that work well for a number of months, then not so much. Suppliers disappearing. Warranty not being honored... think I'll pass on that idea. Can't seem to find any other 200x100mm units available in the UK anymore. I guess that means the big compromise I'll have to make is on the fascia adapter. So in terms of a standard double din unit, what's a good option these days? There are so many to choose from!

Excellent tip, just did this on my BRZ and worked exactly as described. Thank you!

Good luck wearing those things out! They'll be be too old and hard long before that happens I suspect. I wondered about a wider size as well, but where as the Michelins seemed to almost have a bit of a stretch on the rim which looked a bit odd, the Dunlops fit much more square and seem better suited to the wheel. Unless you need the extra grip, you might find the 215 width is ok. They cost me £83 a corner including fitting, pretty good value. Thanks, I'll check them out. There's also Horsham Developments very near to where I live so I'll speak to them as well. The torque dip is real for sure, although it's a bit like VTEC when the power comes back! I'm finding that pottering around normally it doesn't get in the way, and when I'm on it I'm higher in the revs anyway. Will give it some thought...

That's good news, thank you, I'll do some research. Any recommendations for someone in the south to do the work? No complaints from me so far, standard 215/45/17 size. Outside of what we run on the Caterhams I don't really have any current knowledge of tyres so the Dunlops were recommended by a friend who's happy with them on his Impreza. They seem to get decent reviews on the GT86/BRZ too. The Michelins were the thick end of 6 years old and had badly cracked sidewalls, so not a great point of reference. I'm only around 200 miles into the Dunlops but the car doesn't break away on power as agressively as before. Ride quality and road noise about the same I think. Wet braking is good, and the overall neutral balance of the car is still there but probably with just an overall higher level of grip now. But again, the old tyres were well past their best.

That's properly awesome. I'm hoping there will be plenty on the used market in a few years time! Now all you need are some little red mud flaps, some white Compomotives, straight through exhaust, and anti-lag. And the WRC rear wing maybe 😁

Cheers guys. I may see you out and about Martin, I'm only just up the road. Good to know the throttle can be cured ok - can the factory ECU be reprogrammed or is it a case of going for something standalone and a full mapping session? I've read about how there's more throttle angle in the first half of the pedal travel, but for me the more annoying part is the delay to close the throttle when I come off the pedal. At the end of the day you can't beat a cable!
