I don't think I've received anything, then again I do delete my junk emails regularly. Is it worth me contacting them to ask the question?

    Stretched tyres - Legality

Can any of you help. I was pulled over by the police last night. A nice bloke to be fair, but informed me that they are clamping down on stretched tyres. He thought my tyres "Weren't right" and even though he was warning me this time, next time they pulled over I will be given 45 mins to get a different set of wheels on the car before they tow and impound it. As well as giving me three points per wheel, so I could lose my license. The tyres I have don't have a lot of stretch. And seem perfectly safe, my old rotas seemed to be far more stretches than these. The wheels are 10.5" wide with 255 /35 tyres rear and 9.5" wide with 225 / 40 tyres. I literally cannot fit wider tyres on my car due to the wide arches being extremely close to the wheels as they are. Is there anyway I could get some paperwork that proves they are safe, as I'm aware there is some tolerance when it comes to stretch tyres.

    Stretched tyres - Legality

Yes, every modification I have made to the car has been logged down by Adrian Flux so I know I'm fully covered and legal on the road. They specify it as alloy wheels under the modified section, and wider tyres than standard. There is no specific category to put them under, and they don't request details on the tyres themselves. I'd assume as long as it passes a MOT with them on they are happy.
  16. Sorry these sold a few days ago. Only just realised about this thread. Apologies.
  17. Selling my Rota Grid Drift Alloys as I have changed alloys now. They are 18" Gold 8.5" Wide front & 9.5" Rear. The staggered look, really works well with the GT86. The tyres are Falken Ziex ZE914 tyres. The rears are pretty worn and ideally need replacing and the fronts have around 3mm of wear left before they need changing. Front tyres are 215/40 and rears are 225/40. The alloys have a few kerbs and chips on them, but nothing deep. I have misplaced one of the centre caps, so i only have 3. I'll also chuck in my spare set of TPI locking tuner nuts which haven't been used. Collection only from Wrexham (I could meet someone fairly local if needs be) £500

    Stretched tyres - Legality

Appreciate the info mate, I'm going to try slightly wider tyres with a lower profile and see if they will fit, and if it will allow me to turn. If not I will have to run the risk. I know mate, If I had extreme stretch I could symathise. I think the whole wheel set up freaks the police out as it isn't 'normal'. The camber and the arches don't help but it's all technically legal. It states in the MOT regs that "A class 3 or 4 vehicle tyre which appears to be of inadequate size, ply or speed rating for the vehicle or it's use is NOT a reason for rejection. However the vehicle presented should be informed". It's all pathetic really, If the police want to clamp down on something, make it fair and actually make up some rules for us to comply with!!!

    Stretched tyres - Legality

I'll have a read up on it. I've spoken to my MOT guy and he is going to get back to me after confirming the legislation. Exactly right, the can't fine you because in their opinion they think its illegal. Without spending a ridiculous amount of money I can't really correct this issue easily. So for now I'll see how it pans out and like you said, if they try and fine me or give me points etc, I will ask for evidence. I struggle to understand how they can "Clamp down" on something which hasn't been given exact rules / guidelines. Ohh and he really wound me up when he said "Why have you done this to your car, its just silly and stupid.....just stupid" Referring to my over all mods. No need to give his critical opinion on the way I've modified my car. I've modified it all to be safe and road legal (apart from this issue with the tyres now), Anyway rant over.

    Stretched tyres - Legality

That is an insane fitment!! I think I had 225s on my 9.5J on my old set up, and I had no problems, and wasn't pulled over. So I agree, either I was unlucky or they are now clamping down on it. Rather fustrating as I've just spent a lot of time and money getting these wheels and tyre setup to fit with the arches. I'm not in the position to change the wheels, so I will need to have a good think on how I can get around this.

    Stretched tyres - Legality

I agree, I think the combination of the wide arches, the camber and the chrome rim. They must be rubbing their hands together. I'm currently waiting on a reply off Yokohama, see what they advise.

That rubbing was caused before I had the arches altered to have them fit properly. No more rubbing now. But yeah totally agree, plenty of other mods are more of an issue than the slight stretch, however many of which are legal.

    Stretched tyres - Legality

I know that's what I'm scared about. I may just take a front and a rear wheel with me in the wife's car, as I don't want them commenting on the arches and camber set up. I know, he didn't really seem to know the legalities of it all, but wasn't shy in saying how I could lose my license and have my car impounded. I wish there was some black and white regulations, stating a certain percentage of stretch is acceptable. It just seems like its all left to the decision of the police officer, who don't know themselves!!! If they've had a bad day I'm screwed and if not I'm warned. Jesus..

I may pop along to vosa is Llay. They are right next to my work. I'll see what they say. But first I'll check with Yokohama. They might have some sway when it comes to me getting a cover note with VOSA.
