It's for my 18 year old daughter as her first car so driving dynamics are not the priority quite yet !
-
Which will take a while... Our main family car is quickly going to become redundant I think !

My recently aquired 12 GT86 on 11K miles produces a lot of condensation, particularly on the rear window. I always run the aircon and it clears quickly but the other evening outside my office the condensation was on the inside of the windscreen too, and quite a lot of it. I normally asscociate that with a leak or water ingress. Problem is, I have no soggy carpets at all nor can I find any signs of damp in the car, including boot. Is the car prone to this even without leak ? Or could it be coming from a blocked drained, either AC or rain water drain ? Any tips where they are and how to check for blocages ? Or from the bulkhead ? Any ideas ? It's very annoying considering how perfect the condition of the car is otherwise. Thanks ! Nick

Absolutely no condensation since I first posted. Bizarre as the weather has been really wet...

Thx guys. Looks quite normal. I parked 4 hours ago. 2 hours ago the rear window was fogged up inside. Now it's all clear (I didn't touch the car). Must be down to dew point varying...

Bedford GT on Mon 9th March with Javelin. Interested ?

Hiya, With most car, I find it easy to assess how much friction material is left on the pads, with a torch even through the wheel spokes. On the GT86 even when the wheels were off I couldn't tell as the caliper seems to "wrap around" the pads. Or is it because they are very low ? I don't really want to remove the calipers. Is it normal that I have no visibility or just the sign of advanced wear ? I couldn't see any sensors either. Thanks for any clarification. Nick

£16.5k for a Oct 12 car with 10k miles from a Scooby dealer. White manual with cloth and no nav. 1 question : they are doing the 2nd service. Apart from oil and brake fluid, what else should they officially be doing as part of the scheduled maintenance at that mileage ? Anything ? Thanks. Nick
-
11k, but I only bought it a couple of months ago so hardly any of the mileage is mine. I don't know if the previous owner tracked it or not but based on your experience, clearly loads of life. The first service report at 5k miles stated 80% of material left but that may have been a guess rather than a measurement. I am sure I'd would be find for road use for a while even with half the material but as the track season is going to start and because oe pads can be marginal, I'd rather have a lot of material for obvious heat dissipation reasons (every little helps!). I'll have a loog in the calipers and report back. Thx everyone and particularly Jay for posting the torque data !!!

Cheers for that Jay. Do you know the torque setting for the bolt when I am done ?

Cheap Goodyear Eagle F1s through Kwik Fit

Well. It went pretty well. The Kwik Fit man was impressed by my device and used it with his pneumatic jack, which didn't fit under the front bumper for centre jack point purposes. Their mobile equipment is brand new and clearly very alloy friendly. He let me in the van to observe and he was ever so careful. Both tyres were Made in Germany and therefore totally match the rears. Thanks Kwik Fit. Unexpected but refreshing. -
They work out at £170/pair fitted in 215 45 17 87Y after 3% Topcashback, £20 Goodyear cashback scheme and refund of the old tyre recycling cost if like me you sell the Primacy on ebay. All from Kwik-Fit online unfortunately but home fitting will get me some sort of control over the work...

Very bored today. So I made this is case the mobile KF guy is ill equipped tomorrow. I didn't have wood thick enough so I used an old BMW jack pad... -
Don't worry, I do think everyday is a school day. For me Bedford is ideal for a shakedown on a car I have never tracked so I will start there. I have Spa later this year so I'd better understand the car's balance by then !

I am hoping the OE pads will survive short 10mn sessions indeed... I also think that technique helps a little too. I have seen novice drivers not realising how much lat grip there is and overusing the brakes yet not braking hard enough, maximising contact time between pads and discs, hence overheating unnecessarily, when a shorter/harder application would have worked better in terms of heat management.

Good to know mate, thanks. I have 2 of them made in Germany now at the rear so I am hoping the KF ones will be the same. You've actually seen China made Eagle F1s or is it other Goodyear tyres ? -

Not sure what you mean ? Ta for all the other advice though. They called to postpone to the 29th instead of tomorrow and will be refunding £25 for the inconvenience... -

It's £199 - 3% - £20 - £3 for the refund of prepaid recycling fee. I never had mobile tyre fitting. Are the jacking points obvious. Do they need rubber pads of wood not to mark the metal ? Would they reach the central front jacking point ? -

Good point. I went for home fitting, a lot safer with those morons I hope. Do I need to tell him to take any particular precautions with the jacking point ? -
Fair enough but a GT86 is more of a track car than a M3 (this side of a CSL) or than a Cayman (this side of a R) for me. But still it's a road car, agreed. Because my squeal is only slight and only at very low speed, I am not too bothered. If it's piercing than yes it's not acceptable. I hope for you it stays like that now that it's fixed.
-
Not sure what track focused cars or brakes you refer to but I've rarely seen motorsport or proper track equipment that didn't squeal, unless the discs/pads were glazed. It's part and parcel of the intended use. I'd rather have a little squeal than early fade because I've cooked the brakes. But if you don't track your car, then I can see the annoyance.

I find that the threshold is more like 1 or 2 deg, not 7 deg. But it depends on the summer tyres. Supersports were excellent in the cold(ish) compared to winters. I just wished Michelin sold them in 215 45 17 in Europe. What a stupid move not to...

Are there insurance implications in fitting 225 instead of 215 at the rear please ? What profile ? Do you stay with 45%?
